South Africa v Australia: Renshaw and Hazlewood set the tone in Durban
Australia opened their three-Test tour of South Africa with a convincing win. Matt Renshaw made 190 in the first innings and 82 in the second, and was named Player of the Match. Australia posted 390, bowled South Africa out for 284 and then declared on 314 for 6, leaving the hosts a target of 421. Josh Hazlewood finished with career-best figures of 6 for 49 on the final day as South Africa fell for 206, with Aiden Markram’s 75 the main resistance.
The result moved Australia to the top of the World Test Championship table, with New Zealand second and South Africa third. Australian captain Pat Cummins described it as the biggest overseas win of his time in charge. It also ended an unbeaten start to Temba Bavuma’s Test captaincy.
