Saturday is semi-final day at the Rolex Paris Masters, the last Masters 1000 of the year, and the winners will chase the title on Sunday 8 November. Around the world, the ATP Challenger event in Taipei, the WTA tournament in Hong Kong and UTR Pro Tennis Tour events in California, Japan, the Czech Republic and Slovakia are also under way. Here is the full picture, from the scoreboard to the race for the last places in Turin.
Paris Masters: Alcaraz escapes, Shelton and Van Assche advance
The tournament runs from 2 to 8 November at La Défense Arena in Nanterre, just outside Paris. Friday’s quarter-finals produced one of the matches of the week. Alcaraz, the second seed, trailed Fritz by a set and a break and faced two match points, the first at 3-5 in the second set, before turning it around to win 6-7(10), 7-5, 6-3. He will play Ruud, who beat Nuno Borges in straight sets and reached his first semi-final at this event.
In the top half, Shelton beat compatriot Tommy Paul 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. It is the American lefty’s third Masters 1000 semi-final, and he won the title on both previous occasions, in Toronto in 2025 and in Montreal in 2026. He is the first American in the Paris semi-finals since 2017.
His opponent is the home favourite. Van Assche, ranked 47th, came from 2-0 down in the final set to beat qualifier Rinky Hijikata 6-4, 6-7(4), 7-5 in two hours and 44 minutes. At 22 he is the second-youngest French semi-finalist in the tournament’s history, behind only Richard Gasquet in 2007, and the result lifts him into the top 35.

Earlier rounds had their own storylines. On Thursday, Hijikata beat Tomás Etcheverry 2-6, 6-3, 7-5, lucky loser Borges beat Ivan Buse 6-0, 6-2, and in doubles the wildcard French pairing of Quentin Halys and Pierre-Hugues Herbert upset third seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos 4-6, 6-3, [10-7]. Top seeds Harri Heliövaara and Henry Patten also advanced. Last year’s champion here was Jannik Sinner, who beat Félix Auger-Aliassime in the 2025 final; read more in our Jannik Sinner profile.
Race to Turin: Tiafoe and Jodar book their places
The Nitto ATP Finals take place at the Inalpi Arena in Turin from 15 to 22 November. Alexander Zverev, Alcaraz and Shelton had already secured places before Paris, and Friday’s results settled more. Shelton’s win over Paul meant Paul could no longer pass Jodar for the final spot, and it confirmed Tiafoe’s qualification. Alcaraz’s win over Fritz then ended the American’s own chances, leaving 20-year-old Spaniard Rafael Jodar with the last place.
Jodar’s rise has been one of the stories of the autumn. He reached his first Masters 1000 final in Shanghai in October, losing to fellow Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, and moved into a qualifying position from there. Tiafoe and Jodar are both set to make their Finals debuts, according to the reports we reviewed. For the official line-up and alternates, check the ATP’s Race once the Paris final is played.
Sinner’s season is over. The Italian, who won Wimbledon this year, finished on 7,950 Race points and has announced he will not play again in 2026 because of a right knee injury.
