Siyabonga Ndlovu's second-half equaliser preserved Kaizer Chiefs' unbeaten start to the season, after Richards Bay's Xulu twice put the hosts in front at their own ground.
Kaizer Chiefs were made to fight for a point at Richards Bay Stadium on Wednesday night, twice coming from behind to salvage a 2-2 draw and preserve their unbeaten start to the Betway Premiership season. Richards Bay, still chasing a first win of the campaign, led on two separate occasions through a Xulu brace, but Amakhosi substitute Siyabonga Ndlovu struck late to rescue a share of the spoils for Fernando da Cruz's side on Matchday 4.
Richards Bay made the perfect start in front of their home supporters, with Xulu breaking the deadlock inside the opening eight minutes to give the hosts an early lead. Kaizer Chiefs, fielding a side once again without a recognised out-and-out striker under head coach Fernando da Cruz — though Mduduzi Shabalala and Mfundo Vilakazi were restored to the starting line-up following the previous week's draw with Mamelodi Sundowns — responded well, with Maboe levelling the score in the 19th minute to briefly settle the visitors.
The response from Kaizer Chiefs was short-lived. Xulu struck for a second time in the 39th minute, restoring Richards Bay's lead and sending the hosts in at half-time 2-1 ahead against a Chiefs side still searching for a foothold in the contest.
Chiefs went into the interval trailing but keen to find a way back into the game to protect their unbeaten record and hold onto second spot in the table. The equaliser eventually arrived in the 77th minute, when substitute Siyabonga Ndlovu came off the bench to net Chiefs' second goal of the night and complete a battling comeback, ensuring the points were shared at Richards Bay Stadium.

The point keeps Kaizer Chiefs unbeaten through the opening stretch of the season and maintains their position in the upper half of the table, though back-to-back draws — following a stalemate with Mamelodi Sundowns — will leave da Cruz wanting more cutting edge in the final third, particularly while his side continues to operate without an out-and-out striker. For Richards Bay, a battling performance against one of the league's traditional heavyweights offers encouragement, even as their wait for a first win of the 2026/27 campaign goes on.
