NEW YORK — The countdown to the 2026 US Open is almost complete. Tennis's final Grand Slam of the season gets underway at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on August 23, with Fan Week activities and qualifying before the singles main draw begins on August 30.

The tournament will run through September 13, when the men's singles champion is crowned. According to the official US Open schedule, the 2026 event features 22 days of tennis and entertainment, making it the longest edition in the tournament's history.

Key dates: Fan Week begins August 23, singles qualifying starts August 24, the men's and women's singles main draws begin August 30, the women's final is September 12 and the men's final is September 13.

Fan Week Starts the Celebration

The 2026 US Open will begin with an expanded opening week designed to bring fans into the tournament before the main draw gets underway. Arthur Ashe Kids' Day will kick off Fan Week on Sunday, August 23, with free admission and family-focused activities.

Qualifying matches will then take place from August 24 through August 27. The tournament's reimagined mixed doubles championship is also part of the opening-week program. The US Open says eight days of the event will feature free grounds admission.

The Main Draw Begins August 30

The biggest stars will take center stage beginning Sunday, August 30. The singles main draws will again be played across 15 days, with the tournament concluding on September 13.

The men's final is scheduled for Sunday, September 13, while the women's singles final will be played on Saturday, September 12. The men's semifinals are scheduled for September 11.

Alcaraz, Sinner and the Battle for New York

The men's tournament arrives with enormous attention surrounding Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. Both have emerged as the defining figures of the current generation and will be among the players expected to contend for the title.

Alexander Zverev is also among the leading names on the entry list. The ATP's official preview identifies Sinner, Zverev and Alcaraz among the headline players looking to add another major title to their collections.

Novak Djokovic remains another major storyline. The 39-year-old is chasing a record-extending 25th Grand Slam singles title, but his preparation suffered a setback in Cincinnati, where he lost to world No. 50 Thiago Agustín Tirante. Djokovic's performance in New York will therefore be closely watched as he attempts to make another deep run at a major.

Sabalenka Leads a Wide-Open Women's Picture

On the women's side, Aryna Sabalenka enters New York as one of the tournament's biggest attractions and a defending champion. She lifted the US Open trophy in 2025 alongside Alcaraz, giving both champions a chance to defend their titles this year.

However, Sabalenka's preparation has taken an unexpected turn. She was knocked out by Czech rising star Sara Bejlek in Cincinnati, adding another layer of uncertainty to the women's draw just before the final Grand Slam.

The Cincinnati result could open the door for other contenders, including Elena Rybakina and several other established stars. The recent North American hard-court swing has demonstrated how quickly the rankings can be challenged when the biggest names are under pressure.

A Bigger Tournament Experience

The 2026 US Open is not only about the matches. Organizers have expanded the event's entertainment and fan experience, with activities extending beyond the Flushing Meadows grounds and into New York City's five boroughs.

The tournament has also emphasized free grounds access on selected days, while its broader Fan Week program is intended to give spectators more opportunities to experience the event before the main draw begins.

New York Waits for the Final Grand Slam

With the Cincinnati Open providing plenty of surprises and the world's leading players preparing for the final major of the year, anticipation is building quickly in New York.

The 2026 US Open promises another summer spectacle at Flushing Meadows: defending champions attempting to repeat, established legends chasing history and younger challengers looking to announce themselves on the sport's biggest stage.

In just a few days, the anticipation will give way to competition. The road to the US Open trophy begins in New York on August 23, with the singles title battles beginning August 30.
