Four all-WTA-led pairings survive a wild day of upsets at Flushing Meadows, with Djokovic, Sabalenka, Williams and Alcaraz all eliminated before the final four.
NEW YORK — The 2026 US Open mixed doubles championship has reached its final four, after a marathon Tuesday of first-round and quarterfinal action at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center whittled the star-studded 16-team field down to just two semifinal ties, both headlined by top WTA singles players and their partners.
Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev, Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli, Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik, and Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils are the four teams left standing heading into Wednesday's semifinals and final on Arthur Ashe Stadium, with the winning pair set to collect a $1 million grand prize.
Semifinal 1: Elina Svitolina / Gael Monfils vs. Belinda Bencic / Flavio Cobolli
Semifinal 2: Karolina Muchova / Jakub Mensik vs. Mirra Andreeva / Andrey Rublev
The road to the semifinals was littered with shocks. Top seeds Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka were eliminated in the first round by Katerina Siniakova and Henry Patten, the world's No. 1-ranked women's and men's doubles players, who fought back from a set down to win in a match tiebreak. Siniakova and Patten's own run ended in the quarterfinals against Svitolina and Monfils.
Fan favorites Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz, playing together for the first time, reached the quarterfinals before being knocked out by fourth seeds Bencic and Cobolli, who went on to win all four sets they played across their two matches on the day.
Andreeva and Rublev had arguably the most dramatic route to the last four, needing a deciding match tiebreak to see off 2025 runners-up Diana Shnaider and Casper Ruud 4-1, 4-5(9), [10-5] in just over an hour, in a match that finished after the pair had served for it in the second set before dropping an extended tiebreak. It capped a run in which Andreeva and Rublev had already eliminated Ruud's regular partnership from last year's final and defending format runners-up Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori in the first round.
Now in its second year, the revamped mixed doubles event condenses qualifying, the main draw and the final into a rapid three-day window ahead of the start of the singles championships, pairing top singles stars with dedicated doubles specialists across a 16-team field. Semifinal matches are played as best-of-three sets to four games with no-ad scoring and a 10-point match tiebreak in place of a third set, while Wednesday's final reverts to a longer format, with sets played to six games.
| Round | Prize per team |
|---|---|
| Champion | $1,000,000 |
| Runner-up | $500,000 |
| Semifinalist | $250,000 |
| Quarterfinalist | $120,000 |
| Round of 16 | $40,000 |
Whoever lifts the trophy on Wednesday night, it will be a new name added to the mixed doubles honor roll — 2025 champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori were eliminated well before the semifinal stage this year, opening the door for one of the four remaining pairings to claim their first US Open mixed doubles crown.
