FC Barcelona are riding high after a spectacular 5-2 victory over Rayo Vallecano, but the Spanish champions remain at the centre of a busy period of transfer and squad news. Lamine Yamal and Raphinha both scored twice in the latest victory, while the club has completed the signing of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal.
Barcelona continued their perfect start to the 2026-27 La Liga campaign with a commanding 5-2 victory over Rayo Vallecano at the Spotify Camp Nou on 31 August. The result gave Hansi Flick's side three wins from three league matches and reinforced their position at the top end of the early standings.
Raphinha and Lamine Yamal were the headline performers, with both attackers scoring twice. The attacking display underlined Barcelona's ability to create chances from several areas of the pitch while maintaining the aggressive style that has become a feature of Flick's team.
One of the biggest individual stories from the Rayo match was Lamine Yamal's latest landmark. The teenage winger reached 50 goals for Barcelona, becoming the youngest player in the club's history to reach that total.
Yamal's development continues to be one of the defining stories surrounding Barcelona. His combination of acceleration, close control, creativity and finishing has made him a central figure in Flick's attacking plans.
His two goals against Rayo also helped answer questions about his early-season form. With Barcelona competing across several competitions, his availability and consistency could be crucial to the club's ambitions.
Raphinha is also enjoying an exceptional opening to the league campaign. Barcelona's official news service reports that the Brazilian is currently La Liga's leading scorer with five goals from the first three matches.
His scoring record is particularly notable because he has found the net in every league round so far. Barcelona's official site notes that the feat had not been achieved by a Barça player since Lionel Messi.
Raphinha's form gives Flick another major attacking outlet alongside Yamal and the rest of Barcelona's forward line.
Barcelona have also made one of the most significant moves of the transfer window by signing Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal. The 29-year-old has agreed a contract with Barcelona through 30 June 2029.
Reports indicate that Barcelona will pay an initial fee of approximately £8.6 million (around $11.5 million) for the striker. His arrival provides Flick with another experienced attacking option and adds depth to a forward group that has undergone significant change.
Jesus arrives in Spain after four seasons at Arsenal, where he made 123 appearances and scored 32 goals. Before moving to England, he spent six seasons at Manchester City, winning four Premier League titles.
The signing is particularly important because Barcelona had been searching for additional centre-forward options. The club had also been linked with Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez, although Atlético's resistance has complicated any potential deal.
Barcelona's transfer activity has not been limited to incoming players. The club has also been reshaping its squad through registrations, loans and permanent departures.
According to Barcelona's official first-team news, midfielder Brian Fariñas has been registered as a first-team player and will wear the number 4 shirt. The La Masia product has consequently taken another step toward becoming a regular member of the senior squad.
Marc Casadó, meanwhile, has joined Deportivo La Coruña on a season-long loan. Barcelona have also announced agreements involving Álvaro Cortés and Toni Fernández, with the club retaining a buy-back option and a percentage of a future sale in Fernández's case.
These moves demonstrate that Barcelona are continuing to balance first-team ambitions with the development and management of younger players.
Another major addition to the squad is Rodri, the Spain international midfielder. The former Manchester City player is among Barcelona's significant additions for the new campaign and made his debut during the early weeks of the season.
His experience, positional intelligence and ability to control possession could become particularly important as Barcelona face a demanding schedule later in the campaign.
Barcelona's next La Liga assignment comes on Sunday, 6 September, when they travel to face Valencia at Mestalla.
The fixture represents the next test of Barcelona's perfect start. Valencia will have home advantage, while Barça will attempt to maintain their scoring momentum and preserve their position near the top of the table.
Barcelona's official match page lists the fixture for Sunday and records Barcelona's strong historical head-to-head record against Valencia, although recent meetings have produced contrasting results.
Barcelona have also received confirmation of the first La Liga Clásico of the season. Barcelona will host Real Madrid on 25 October 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 9:00 p.m. CEST.
The fixture will be one of the biggest early-season tests for Flick's side and will provide a major benchmark for Barcelona's title defence.
The early signs are highly encouraging for Barcelona. Three consecutive league victories, 13 goals scored in those matches and outstanding individual contributions from Yamal and Raphinha have given the champions significant attacking momentum.
At the same time, the arrival of Gabriel Jesus gives Flick another option in attack, while Rodri adds experience and control in midfield. The challenge now is to maintain that momentum when the schedule becomes more demanding.
The Valencia trip will be the immediate priority. Beyond that match, Barcelona will have to integrate their new arrivals, manage squad depth and continue developing their young players while competing for domestic and European honours.
For now, however, the message from Camp Nou is clear: Barcelona have started the new season at full speed, and the combination of Yamal's emergence, Raphinha's scoring form, Flick's attacking system and a revamped squad has created considerable optimism around the club.
