Brentford opened the 2026/27 Premier League campaign in emphatic fashion, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 3–0 at the Gtech Community Stadium. The hosts were sharper, more dangerous and far more clinical, taking control with two first-half goals before adding a third shortly after the interval.
Keane Lewis-Potter gave Brentford the lead in the 12th minute, finishing a move assisted by Mamadou Sangaré. Vitaly Janelt doubled the advantage in the 33rd minute, leaving Tottenham with a two-goal deficit at half-time. Michael Kayode then made it 3–0 in the 49th minute. Tottenham could not find a response, while Brentford's Igor Thiago also missed a penalty, meaning the margin could have been even larger.
The result was a difficult opening for Tottenham and new manager Roberto De Zerbi, whose heavily revamped side struggled to establish cohesion. Brentford, by contrast, looked well organised and intense under Keith Andrews.
