The official FIA classification records Norris' winning time as 2:04:44.859 after 72 laps. Charles Leclerc recorded the fastest lap of the race at 1:14.230 on lap 60, at an average speed of 206.552 km/h.
The biggest shock came almost immediately after the start. Norris led from pole, but Verstappen's home race lasted less than a lap.
Verstappen lost the rear of his Red Bull after dipping a wheel across the white line on the main straight and crashed heavily. He was fortunately able to report that he was okay, but the damaged car could not continue.
Debris on the circuit forced race control to deploy the red flag. The stoppage also dramatically altered the strategic picture, with teams able to reassess tyre choices before the standing restart.
Norris initially retained the lead at the original start, but Kimi Antonelli produced an excellent launch when the race resumed. The Mercedes driver swept past Norris and moved into first place.
Antonelli then established a small advantage while Norris remained close enough to keep the pressure on. Mercedes had chosen medium tyres for its leading cars, while Norris was running the soft compound.
The contrasting tyre strategies became increasingly important as the race progressed. Norris was able to extend his stint and later benefit from fresher tyres after making his stop.
The decisive phase came in the final third of the race. Norris stayed out longer than Antonelli and subsequently used the performance advantage of his fresher tyres to close the gap.
With 18 laps remaining, Norris passed Antonelli on track to regain first place. The McLaren driver then built enough of a cushion to remain in control when another strategic complication arrived.
Norris ultimately crossed the finish line 11.536 seconds ahead of Antonelli, completing an impressive recovery after losing the lead at the restart.
A late Virtual Safety Car was triggered when Esteban Ocon's Haas stopped on the circuit. The neutralisation gave several drivers an opportunity to make a final pit stop with a reduced time loss.
Antonelli took advantage of the situation and switched to fresh tyres. Russell and Norris remained on track, temporarily putting the Mercedes drivers in an unusual order.
Mercedes subsequently instructed Russell to allow Antonelli through. Russell complied, moving Antonelli into second place.
Russell then had to defend third place from Lewis Hamilton, eventually holding off the Ferrari by just 0.849 seconds.
Ferrari enjoyed a strong overall result but narrowly missed the podium. Hamilton finished fourth and Leclerc fifth.
Hamilton finished only 0.849 seconds behind Russell, while Leclerc was a further 0.503 seconds behind his Ferrari teammate.
Leclerc nevertheless recorded the fastest lap of the race, giving Ferrari an important piece of performance data despite missing out on the podium.
Oscar Piastri finished sixth, completing a disappointing weekend by McLaren's normally dominant standards. The Australian had started near the front but was unable to match Norris' pace over the full race distance.
Piastri's result also meant McLaren did not secure a one-two finish, although Norris' victory ensured the team continued its strong record at Zandvoort.
Liam Lawson was the highest-finishing Red Bull driver, taking seventh place after a challenging weekend for the team.
Lawson was standing in for the injured Isack Hadjar and produced a valuable points finish. He was classified 79.915 seconds behind Norris and retained seventh despite a 10-second penalty for a yellow-flag infringement.
Verstappen's retirement therefore meant Red Bull missed out on a major opportunity to score heavily at its home driver's final Dutch Grand Prix.

Antonelli's second-place finish was hugely valuable in the championship battle. After 12 rounds, the Mercedes driver moved to 242 points, extending his advantage to 59 points over George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, who were tied on 183 points.
Norris moved to fourth in the championship with his victory, although he remained 83 points behind Antonelli. The result keeps his title challenge alive with more races still remaining.

The 2026 race marked the final scheduled Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. The circuit returned to the Formula 1 calendar in 2021 after a lengthy absence and quickly became one of the sport's most atmospheric venues.
Norris' victory continued an extraordinary statistical trend: every Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort since its 2021 return had been won from pole position.
The circuit's final Formula 1 weekend therefore ended with another winner starting at the head of the grid, although Norris had to fight through a red flag, a restart and a change of race leader before securing victory.
The 2026 Dutch Grand Prix delivered an appropriately dramatic farewell to Zandvoort. Norris converted pole into victory, but only after Verstappen's opening-lap crash caused a red flag and Antonelli seized the lead at the restart.
Norris' decision to extend his first stint ultimately paid off. He returned to the front with 18 laps remaining and held his advantage despite a late Virtual Safety Car that reshuffled the strategies.
Antonelli's second place was arguably just as important from a championship perspective. With Russell finishing third and Hamilton fourth, the young Mercedes driver strengthened his position at the top of the standings.
As Formula 1 leaves Zandvoort, Norris leaves with momentum, Antonelli leaves with a larger championship advantage, and the sport's final Dutch Grand Prix at the iconic circuit goes into the record books as one of the most eventful races of the 2026 season.
