Six riders separated by just 56 points head to MotorLand as MotoGP's tightest title fight in years resumes — with home advantage split between championship leader Jorge Martin and four-time Aragon winner Marc Marquez.
ALCAÑIZ, SPAIN — MotoGP returns to action this weekend for the Michelin Grand Prix of Aragon, the 13th round of a 2026 season that has developed into one of the most closely fought title races in years, with six riders covered by just 56 points as the championship enters its final ten-round sprint to Valencia.
The race weekend runs from Friday, August 28 through Sunday, August 30 at MotorLand Aragón, with two free practice sessions on Friday, final practice and qualifying on Saturday morning followed by the Sprint in the afternoon, and Sunday reserved for warm-up and the 23-lap Grand Prix itself.
Friday, Aug 28: FP1 10:45am / 9:45am — Practice 3:00pm / 2:00pm
Saturday, Aug 29: FP2 10:10am / 9:10am — Qualifying 10:50am / 9:50am — Sprint 3:00pm / 2:00pm
Sunday, Aug 30: Warm-up 9:35am — Moto3 11:00am — Moto2 12:15pm — MotoGP race 2:00pm local
Jorge Martin arrives at MotorLand leading the riders' championship on 240 points, a 31-point cushion over Aprilia factory teammate Marco Bezzecchi and 37 points clear of Trackhouse's Ai Ogura in third. It is a milestone weekend for Martin personally: this will be his first time racing the Aprilia RS-GP at Aragon, having missed last year's race entirely through injury.
Defending champion Marc Marquez sits fourth, 40 points off the pace after a difficult Silverstone where he managed only a pair of results in the 7-9 range. But Aragon has historically been a fortress for the Ducati rider — Marquez has won the last four premier-class races at the circuit dating back to 2022, and has seven career premier-class victories in front of the home Spanish crowd, making him the man to beat on pure form even from outside the championship lead.
Martin struck an optimistic tone ahead of the weekend, saying his team arrives in "great shape" as they look to build on a strong run of results through the season's first half.
Aprilia's strength has been the defining feature of the 2026 season, with the Noale marque currently occupying two of the top three championship positions through Martin and Bezzecchi, plus Raul Fernandez and Ogura rounding out a four-strong factory-and-satellite presence near the sharp end of the standings. Fernandez, fresh off victory at the British Grand Prix and a newly signed 2027 deal with Trackhouse, sits sixth overall, 56 points off the championship lead.
Elsewhere, KTM's Brad Binder arrives on the back of consecutive top-ten finishes, while Enea Bastianini looks to bounce back from a retirement at Silverstone at a track where he won in 2022. Honda's Luca Marini remains the only rider to have scored points in every Grand Prix so far this season, a quiet marker of consistency in a year defined by shifting fortunes at the front of the field.
With the 2026 calendar condensed into a tight run of races through to the Valencia finale in November, riders and teams have little room to recover from a bad weekend. Aragon marks the effective start of that run-in, and a strong result for any of the six title contenders — Martin, Bezzecchi, Ogura, Marquez, Di Giannantonio or Fernandez — could meaningfully reshape the destination of the title race with ten rounds still to play.
