Johannesburg, South Africa — 29 July 2026
The squad assembled in Johannesburg earlier this week, where players have been put through intensive training sessions aimed at refining combinations, improving match fitness, and implementing tactical plans ahead of the August 8 clash in Buenos Aires. The coaching staff has scheduled a balanced training program, including recovery periods to ensure players remain fresh for the demanding international campaign.
Erasmus has named a strong training squad featuring the return of several experienced campaigners, including captain Siya Kolisi, fly-half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, lock Eben Etzebeth, and veteran playmaker Handré Pollard, all of whom are returning after injury setbacks. Their inclusion adds valuable experience and depth as South Africa prepares for a challenging run of fixtures.
The Springboks have also strengthened the squad with the addition of prop Ntuthuko Mchunu, expanding the group as selectors continue to manage player workloads and build depth across key positions. The move reflects Erasmus' strategy of maintaining competition for places while ensuring the squad is equipped for a demanding schedule against two of the world's strongest rugby nations.
"Our focus is entirely on Argentina. Every Test match demands respect, and we know the quality they possess. Preparing properly for that match gives us the best platform for everything that follows."
— Rassie Erasmus
The Argentina Test is expected to provide the Springboks with an important opportunity to finalize combinations before the Rugby's Greatest Rivalry series against the All Blacks begins later in August. Coaches are expected to rotate players strategically while assessing form, fitness, and tactical adaptability.
With experienced leaders returning, emerging talent pushing for selection, and fierce competition throughout the squad, optimism is growing that the Springboks are building momentum ahead of one of the biggest international rugby campaigns of the year.
